Dubai’s annual design event invites regional creatives to submit urban designs centred on this year’s theme ‘playfulness’, with the selected winner receiving a cash prize.
Dubai Design Week has recently launched an open call inviting the Middle East and North Africa’s creatives to submit proposals for an urban design feature or product, to be displayed at this year’s fair held from 8 to 13 November 2021.
This year’s theme, ‘playfulness’, calls on designers and architects around the region to submit their proposals for public space interventions primarily catering to wellbeing and promoting a positive narrative.
“In the face of recent global challenges and repeated lockdowns shifting the nature of interaction between people and public spaces, designers and architects are asked to look at these areas in a playful way to safely reinstate social relations and increase the levels of happiness for users through an interactive public space intervention,” reads the competition’s brief.
The winning proposal will be revealed at Dubai Design Week, with the aim of highlighting its possible implementation on a larger scale.
The winning proposal will be awarded AED 60,000 with an additional AED 40,000 to cover production fees. This includes all project development technical plans, renders and production management and supervision. The competition’s submission deadline is 30 July 2021 and proposals will be reviewed by a jury of experts comprising directors from A.R.M. Holding and the Art Dubai Group.
